The simplest variation of the traditional Galician Pipes consist of the bag, blowstick, the chanter, where the fingerholes are positioned, and a drone which is tuned to 2 octaves below the chanter. Nowadays it’s more common to find pipes which also have a second drone that is tuned to 1 octave below the chanter. Occasionally, the ‘gaita’ can also have a third small drone hanging from the bag called ‘chillón’ which is either tuned to the tonic of the chanter or a fifth above, depending on the reeds that are used.
